Brighton is a historical city in Sussex which evolved into a fashionable summer resort during Jane Austen's time.
In Pride and Prejudice, Colonel Forster's regiment, which includes George Wickham, relocates to Brighton - presumably for training or patrolling - after spending winter and spring in Hertfordshire. Later, Lydia Bennet travels to Brighton as a houseguest of Mrs. Forster, ultimately running off with Wickham to London.
