Marlborough

Marlborough, Wiltshire is a real place on the Old Bath Road, which would have been well-traveled in Austen’s day by people going from London to Bath (and is now part of the A4).

Willoughby stops in Marlborough on his ride to what he thinks is Marianne’s death bed. He says “A pint of porter with my cold beef at Marlborough was enough to over-set me.”
