The Earl of ------- is the son of the Late Earl of ------- and the brother of Lady Anne Darcy and Lady Catherine de Bourgh. He never appears in the novel, but we know he is the father of Colonel Fitzwilliam and at least one other son.
Based on the fact that the Earl's sisters Lady Anne and Lady Catherine both married men of lower rank, it is likely that he is not as wealthy as his nephew Fitzwilliam Darcy.
