Mr. Jones is the apothecary who sees to Jane when she gets a cold at Netherfield. Jane mentions him in her note as if the Bennets are supposed to know who he is, so he must serve the general area around Meryton, Hertfordshire.
As an apothecary, he would be a “poor man’s physician,” and primarily a druggist. He undoubtedly would have kept a shop (likely in Meryton) and would only have been able to charge patients for the pharmaceuticals he sells them and not his medical expertise. If he stayed at Netherfield for any length of time, he would have dined with the servants.
