Lydia says “Mrs. Forster promised to have a little dance in the evening...and so she asked the two Harringtons to come, but Harriet was ill, and so Pen was forced to come by herself.” Presumably, Harriet and Pen are sisters who live in or around Meryton and are of an age with Lydia Bennet and Harriet Forster, making them all friends.
