Whitwell is a stately home approximately 12 miles from Barton. The owner is brother-in-law to Colonel Brandon (presumably through his sister), and is from home when the group from Barton attempt to picnic there in the first half of the novel.
Though no one ever enters Whitwell, we are told “The grounds were declared to be highly beautiful,....They contained a noble piece of water.”
